Motor Vehicle Break-Ins Map

The Cambridge Police Department is warning residents and commuters of an increase in larcenies from motor vehicles.

Since August 16, there have been 16 reported motor vehicle break-ins in the Peabody, North Cambridge and Agassiz neighborhoods with 13 of the 16 break-ins occurring in Peabody.  Most of the activity is concentrated in the southern part of the Peabody neighborhood. A majority of the break-ins were from unlocked cars parked in driveways or in front of a victim’s residence overnight.

Cambridge Police have directed patrols to these areas, but are encouraging motorists to take the following precautions to protect themselves, their vehicles, and their belongings from theft:

  • MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR CAR DOORS ARE LOCKED.
Ensure your windows are rolled up when leaving your vehicle, including when parked in a residential driveway.
  • Never leave valuables in your car.
  • If you must leave packages or valuables in your car, place them in the trunk or under a seat or blanket to conceal them so that they are not exposed.

Additional tips for how you can protect your vehicles and belongings from theft can be found at www.CambridgePolice.org/SafetyTips.

If you are a victim of this type of crime, even if your vehicle was not damaged or you did not suffer the loss of valuables, it is important that you call and report the incident to police at 617-349-3300.  This information is important and helps the Cambridge Police track trends and patterns throughout the City.
