Cambridge Police Department Arrest Suspect For Package Theft

caution sign The information on this page may be outdated as it was published 9 years ago.

Officers with the Cambridge Police Department arrested Steven Ward, 59, homeless, for larceny on Wednesday after he was observed by a witness removing a mail package from a Green Street residence’s front porch.  Ward was stopped by police three blocks from the location of the package theft. A suitcase that he was carrying contained an unopened Amazon Prime package labeled with a Green Street address.

A criminal background check of Ward also revealed that he had an active warrant for his arrest.

This is the second package theft-related arrest made by the Cambridge Police in the last month. On August 29, a Medford resident was arrested for larceny from a building after surveillance footage revealed the suspect stealing multiple packages on Garden Street and placing them in a plastic trash bag.

The Cambridge Police strongly encourage residents to follow these tips to help protect yourself and your packages:

  • Request the delivery of package(s) via a signature to ensure the package will not be left on the front steps or foyer.
  • Track your packages online, so you have a better idea when it is scheduled to arrive.
  • Have your packages delivered to your work address or to a neighbor/friend/family member who would be home, in the event that you are not.
  • If you’re suspicious or have experienced this type of activity, report to the Cambridge Police Department immediately by calling 617-349-3300.
