Twitter Thank You

The Cambridge Police Department is pleased to announce that more than 20,000 accounts now follow @CambridgePolice on Twitter.

According to the most recent IACP Center for Social Media directory, @CambridgePolice has the fourth largest Twitter following in the country for a law enforcement agency of its size. Since launching @CambridgePolice in July 2010, the department’s Twitter account has rapidly grown its follower base and serves as a valuable communications tool for the City of Cambridge. In 2013, the Cambridge Police became only the second department in the nation to share automated, real-time crime tweets with their followers.

“This is a great accomplishment for the department’s Public Information Office and speaks volumes about the receptiveness the City has with this medium and accessing timely information,” said Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert C. Haas. “Tweeting information is a valuable component of our ongoing communications strategy and helps to inform our residents and followers about important public safety information in Cambridge.”
