The Cambridge Police Department reached a new social media milestone last week, when its Twitter followers surpassed 30,000 users.

The Department has been utilizing Twitter since June 2010 as a way to deliver timely crime and public safety information, respond to questions or concerns, update the community on incidents to ensure the community is properly informed, seek the community’s assistance when it comes to suspect identification and missing person cases, and educate and create awareness around the department’s various programs.

Since 2010, the department has also committed to growing its Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, NextDoor and Instagram channels to ensure a broader reach of public information and connectivity with residents. In the last two years, the Cambridge Police Department’s social media following has grown 50 percent.

“We want to thank all of our followers for their support, questions and comments,” said Cambridge Police Commissioner Branville G. Bard, Jr. “The direct communication and two-way engagement made possible through all of our social media outlets has enabled the department to extend its reach and supplement what our officers are doing on a daily basis on the city’s streets and in each of the neighborhoods.”
