Cycle to the Source Bike Ride and Tour of Cambridge's Water Supply Sunday, Oct. 26

On Sunday, Oct. 26, the Cambridge Water Department will lead the second annual “Cycle to the Source,” a pedal-powered tour of the watershed that supplies the raw water to Cambridge residents, schools and businesses.  The 33-mile tour runs from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.,  departing from and return to Cambridge Water Department at 250 Fresh Pond Parkway.

Cycle to the Source is free and open to adults, though participants must bring their own bike, helmet and lunch.  Registration is required with Julie Coffey at 617-349-7712 or jcoffey@cambridgema.gov. 

Cycle to the Source explores the reservoirs, tributaries and historic features that make up Cambridge’s water system, and is a chance to meet some of the team that works hard to protect the City’s water supply.  With the assistance of local bicycle outfitters and guides at Urban Adventours, Water Department staff will lead participants on urban and rural routes through Waltham, Lexington, Lincoln and Weston, where Cambridge’s upper reservoirs – the Hobbs Brook and Stony Brook Reservoirs – are located.  Several stops along the way will feature interactive presentations on watershed issues, Cambridge’s water supply and local history.  Participants will also get to visit one of the reservoir system dams and gatehouses.  With the popularity of this tour last year, early registration is recommended.
