In commemoration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October, the Cambridge Commission for persons with Disabilities is holding a free, interactive workshop entitled “Beyond Accessibility: Universal Design in the Workplace” Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 10-11 a.m., at the City Hall Annex, 2nd floor conference room, 344 Broadway, Cambridge. Enjoy coffee and networking from 9:30-10 a.m.

Keynote speaker, Océ Harrison, has directed the Institute for Human Centered Design’s New England Americans with Disabilities Act Center since 2001 and provides ADA Title I Employment trainings throughout New England. With more Americans needing workplace accommodations, it makes practical sense for employers to implement principles of universal design in the workplace. Dr. Harrison will demystify the relationship between the ADA and universal design, and show examples of universal design in the workplace that benefit everyone.  Employers will also learn more about helpful resources.

This program is sponsored by the Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities, City of Cambridge Employees’ Committee on Diversity, and Cambridge Department of Human Service Programs. This is a scent-free event.  Out of consideration for people with environmental illness or multiple chemical sensitivity, please refrain from using perfume or scented products.

RSVP by Oct. 23 to Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities at 617-349-4692 (voice), 617-492-0235 (TTY) or e-mail Kate Thurman: kthurman@cambridgema.gov.
