Join the Cambridge Commission on the Status of Women to wrap up our three-part tour series, Mapping Feminist Cambridge (MFC). Each tour covered one Cambridge neighborhood square, Central, Inman, or Harvard Square, highlighting the impact local individuals and organizations had on the feminist movement from 1970s-1990s

Kamishibai (paper theater) is a traditional form of Japanese street theater and storytelling where author illustrator Yumi Izuyama uses her original artwork to tell folktales from around the world, bringing them to life for families with young children. A second generation Japanese Brazilian, Izuyama will educate and entertain us using Kamishibai with both traditional Japanese and Brazilian folktales! Funding for Summer Reading has been generously provided by the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Foundation and Friends of the Cambridge Public Library.

The City Council has proposed adopting a new City Charter, which is the law that prescribes the structure of the Cambridge government. The proposed new City Charter shall be submitted to the voters of the City of Cambridge for acceptance at the next biennial election, which will be held on November 4, 2025.

Learn about the Community Learning Center's Reading/Writing and Math classes for adults and take a placement test. Students work towards their high school equivalency (GED/HiSET) or want to improve their skills.

Cancelled: Monthly meeting of the Police Review & Advisory Board held virtually via Zoom to include an update from the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) at Cambridge Police Department and Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) about the case review process and updated officer guidelines for dealing with victims and survivors.

This month's book: Angel Down by Daniel Kraus Reading Interests: The group concentrates on fiction and narrative nonfiction. Some past selections include: An Oral History of Atlantis by Ed Park, The Lilac People by Milo Todd, and Searches by Vauhini Vara. How to get the print book: Copies of the print book are set aside at the Main Library. Visit the Main Library Q&A Desk at 449 Broadway during service hours and a staff member can help you check out a copy. How to get the e-book or digital audiobook: This month’s book is available as an e-book and digital audiobook through OverDrive or the Libby app. The e-book is also available through Hoopla. This Summer Food Programs Map shows the locations for the 2024 Cambridge Summer Food Program. The Cambridge Summer Food Program provides free breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals to Cambridge youth ages 18 and younger.

Join the Cambridge YWCA, the Cambridge LGBTQ+ Commission, and the Central Square Branch Library for a screening of the short documentary Ephemera about Libby Bouvier's activist button collection. Libby Bouvier has spent most of her life collecting an archive of cause buttons and other "ephemera" from the women’s movement, the LGBT movement, and other radical causes she's been directly or indirectly involved with over the decades. This is a moving image portrait of her and her collection. Produced by Lily Bouvier. After the documentary screening, we'll have an opportunity to share about our own activism and to use the Library button makers. We'll have magazines, paper, markers, and more so you can make your own buttons to share your activism with the world! Get creative with us, and join other local activists!
