Neighborhood Conservation Districts were established by city ordinance in 1983. Conservation district designation recognizes a distinctive physical environment that reflects the architectural, cultural, political, economic, or social history of the city. NCDs foster wider public knowledge and appreciation of such neighborhoods. Designation encourages the conservation and maintenance of these areas so that the city may be a more attractive and desirable place in which to live and work.

The City of Cambridge is pleased to announce a new pilot program that will provide up to 20-30 students with free tuition at Bunker Hill Community College and a College Success Coach this school year.

Website + Constant Contact: Marketing Underway for New Affordable Housing at 52 New Street Apartments – Information Sessions on April 28 Just A Start (JAS) is holding a second lottery for up to 20 of its one- and two-bedroom affordable housing rental units at 52 New Street in Cambridge and to fill the waiting list for units as they become available. Supported with funding from the City of Cambridge and Cambridge Affordable Housing Trust, 52 New Street was the first development to be approved under the Affordable Housing Overlay. Construction is complete. Residents selected in this round will begin moving in by late June to July 2026. Applications for the remaining units are now available until May 20 at 3 p.m. Please visit here to complete the application online. The City of Cambridge announced the May schedule for its 7 days per week COVID-19 testing program, including walk-in and expanded appointment-based testing options. Appointment-only testing, provided through a partnership with CIC Health, is now available to people who live or work in Cambridge during any available appointment times, 7 days per week, at CIC Health’s 295 Third Street location during their regular operating hours

Curbside collection of trash, recycling, compost, and yard waste will not be affected and will remain on its regular schedule for this holiday. Regularly scheduled street cleaning routes for Friday, November 10 will be cleaned on Monday, October 30.

Effective February 1, 2026, the City of Cambridge is increasing the fines associated with expired meter and overtime parking tickets.
