In observance of the Presidents Holiday on Monday, February 20, City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed. Curbside trash, recycling, and compost collection will be suspended on the holiday and one day behind for the rest of the week.

Harvard Book Store and the Cambridge Public Library welcome Brandon M. Terry—John L. Loeb Associate Professor of the Social Sciences at Harvard University and Codirector of the Institute on Policing, Incarceration, and Public Safety at the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research—for a discussion of his new book Shattered Dreams, Infinite Hope: A Tragic Vision of the Civil Rights Movement. He will be joined in conversation by Danielle Allen—James Bryant Conant University Professor at Harvard University, Director of the Allen Lab for Democracy Renovation at the Harvard Kennedy School and Director of the Democratic Knowledge Project-Learn at the Harvard Graduate School of Education—and Michael Sandel—Anne T. and Robert M. The Committee voted on its recommendations in August before they were presented to the City Council in September. This year’s process drew nearly 150 comments through public meetings, email, the CPA website, petitions, and other forms of public input.

In observance of the Labor Day Holiday on Monday, September 1, City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed, and payments will not be required at City of Cambridge parking meters and parking meter pay stations.

In observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7, City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed, and payments will not be required at City of Cambridge parking meters and parking meter pay stations. All library locations will also be closed Sunday, September 6.

City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. The hours for the Gold Star Pool on Berkshire Street have been extended Thursday, July 2 - Sunday, July 5 (including July 4th) from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. In the event that the pool reaches capacity, swim times may be limited. Curbside collection of trash, recycling, food waste, and yard waste will still take place on Friday, July 3. If you are going to enjoy the fireworks and Boston Pops show from the Cambridge side, plan ahead and make sure you bring lawn and beach chairs, and water to stay hydrated.

Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) can play a critical role in a safer outcome for all. CIT programs redirect individuals with mental illness away from the criminal justice system and into health care systems.
