The MBTA extended the Green Line to Union Square in Somerville and College Avenue in Medford. The MBTA also plans for a future extension to Route 16/Mystic Valley Parkway in West Medford.

MIT in collaboration with the City of Cambridge is planning to install a new drainage structure from Talbot Street to the Charles River to improve stormwater management in the area due to current and future development.
