The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) is working to create a more equitable afterschool application and enrollment process while expanding access for Cambridge families. For the 2024-2025 school year, 1,486 students received an offer to a DHSP afterschool program, with 90% placed in their first choice, and a 7% increase in applicants from the income priority group. DHSP has also added 246 new seats across programs, launched an OST Expansion Study to support long-term growth, and continues to center caregiver perspectives through the Caregiver Council.

The Cambridge Police Department announced the promotions of 11 members to Lieutenants and Sergeants on April 1, 2024. At a ceremony held in the Sullivan Chamber at Cambridge City Hall, City Manager Yi-An Huang and Police Commissioner Christine Elow promoted five officers to Lieutenants and six to Sergeants.

We invite children and their caregivers to a 30-minute session of songs and stories in Mandarin Chinese with Mina (Yating) Fan, a local mother and educator. This fun and interactive session brings families together to enjoy lively songs and engaging stories in a warm, welcoming environment. This program can accommodate 45 people. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis on the day of the program. The entire party must be present to receive a ticket. This program starts promptly. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has announced the opening of a Safety Net Family Shelter at the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds Building, located at 208 Cambridge Street in East Cambridge. This initiative aims to provide shelter for families eligible for Emergency Assistance (EA) when they cannot be immediately placed into an EA unit.
