The goal of the Summer of Peace Initiative was to support the range of work that promotes a summer free of youth violence in Cambridge through bringing people together to connect, collaborate, share information, and build relationships.

While Cambridge is enriched by individuals studying or working in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) fields, there are many young people who do not have role models who look, talk, or live like them.

The Senior Center offer a variety of recreational classes, from fitness to dance to art along with language classes and technology assistance.

Cambridge has launched a pilot partnership with BlocPower to help multifamily buildings complete energy efficiency and all-electric upgrades that can save energy, improve building comfort, and support Cambridge’s climate goals.

Plaza renovation project

On Tuesday, October 6, 2026 Cambridge Police responded to a shooting incident on Rindge Ave near Russell Field. At approximately 3:20PM Cambridge Emergency Communications received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting gunshots in the vicinity of Russell Field in North Cambridge. Upon arrival responders located one victim suffering from related injuries. That individual has been transported by EMS to a local hospital, their condition is not currently known. Police from Cambridge and regional partners are on-scene investigating the circumstances. Our on-scene command staff do not believe there is any on-going threat to public safety. Community members can expect a heighted police presence in the area while the crime scene is processed. Through the Hampshire Street Safety Improvement Project, the City will add separated bike lanes to Hampshire Street between Inman Square and Broadway, creating a more comfortable biking connection between Inman Square and the Port/Kendall Square. We will also make improvements to existing crosswalks and changes to parking and loading.

Roadway & Sidewalk Reconstruction

The Cambridge Community Foundation and the City of Cambridge have awarded a total of $257,500 in grants to 25 Cambridge-based arts and cultural organizations through the Cultural Capital Fund. Created in late October with a founding $500,000 gift from the Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund and a $100,000 investment from the Wagner Foundation, the fund was established to address urgent needs in the sector due to COVID-19 and to protect the city’s cultural richness over the long term.
