Please join with us to remember the victims of the attacks of September, 11, 2001. A brief, respectful remembrance ceremony will be held at each City firehouse on Monday, September 11, 2023 starting at 9:50 a.m. Everyone is invited to join with firefighters participating at Fire Headquarters at 491 Broadway or at your neighborhood firehouse.

Join us for a chess challenge. Players of all skill levels and all ages are welcome to participate. Chess sets will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. This is not an instructional class, but rather a gathering for individuals who want to play and test their skills against other members of the community. There's no need to register in advance - simply drop by and challenge yourself to improve your mastery of this classic game! A collaboration of the Cambridge Commission on the Status of Women, the Cambridge Arts Council, and the Cambridge Public Library, Filament/Firmament is a living memorial that honors the contributions of women to the life of the City of Cambridge.

Join friends and neighbors for a potluck! This month, we're celebrating soups and other warm, savory foods that are extra nice in the winter. Bring a dish to share, or just come to talk about your experience with a chosen cookbook. All experience levels welcome! No need to bring a dish to join. Visit Valente for a selection of cookbooks that are ready to check out. This book group is for children of all ages and their caregivers and families. Beginning October 17th, weather permitting, the City’s contractor, E J Paving, will be performing partial roadway grinding and paving operations to enhance the road conditions on several sections of street around the City. The roadway grinding operation at each location is expected take two days followed by paving of the roadway later that same week, or the following week (weather permitting). For a list of street sections to be re-surfaced, please see below.

Cambridge promotes sustainable transportation through education, community workshops, planning, and infrastructure projects. Resident volunteers can provide input on transportation projects. The City is investing in Electric Vehicle infrastructure and adding more fully electric vehicles to its fleet.

Young people ages 10 to 14 who love to write are welcome to share their ideas and writing. There will be time for share-outs/workshopping, as well as group or solo writing. Snacks are provided! This week we will be joined by guest author Patrick Joyce, author of Back in the USSR and Strawberry Fields. If you are attending for the first time, registration is helpful, but not required.

Massachusetts Avenue (Mass Ave.) at Albany St. is a four-way, signalized intersection between The Port and Cambridgeport. It is ranked #1 in CDOT’s 2025 analysis of higher crash locations and is scheduled for quick-build upgrades in Spring 2026 as part of the Intersection Safety Audit program.

The climate is changing, and we're all here on the planet together. Join us for a monthly community gathering and discussion of a variety of books about climate change. We will share thoughts, resources, and occasionally host special guests in a welcoming small-group environment. For our April meeting, we will discuss Here comes the sun: a last chance for the climate and a fresh chance for civilization by Bill McKibben. Copies of the print book are available at the Main Library Q&A Desk. The e-book is available on the Libby app and the e-audiobook is available immediately on the Hoopla app. This is a hybrid event. The City of Cambridge is canceling all City-sponsored Halloween events and will not be issuing street closure, block party, or park permits this year for community events in order to help prevent large groups from congregating in close proximity.
