The City of Cambridge announced that, with the Commonwealth's State of Emergency ending on June 15, 2021, and the significant improvements in public health metrics, it will align with the Commonwealth in lifting the City’s ​remaining COVID-19 restrictions on Saturday, May 29, 2021 and will rescind its March 19, 2020 Declaration of Public Health Emergency in Cambridge effective June 15, 2021. Due to the rescission of the ​City’s Declaration of Public Health ​Emergency, the City’s Temporary Eviction Moratorium as amended on July 23, 2020 will also be rescinded, effective June 15, 2021.

The Cambridge Police Department on Friday announced the promotion of Buckowe Yam from Lieutenant to Deputy Superintendent following a special ceremony at the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility. The first Asian-American to ever serve on the department’s command staff, Yam will oversee Day Operations and the Traffic Unit.

Despite the considerable snowfall that Cambridge and the greater region has had this winter, drought conditions have been elevated due to limited groundwater recharge this winter. The Secretary of the Commonwealth’s Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) elevated the Northeast Region of Massachusetts, which includes Cambridge, from a Level 2 - Significant Drought to a Level 3 - Critical Drought earlier this week.
