The City of Cambridge offers free, one-on-one help to residents looking to lower their energy bills. Through the Cambridge Energy Helpline (617-430-6230), callers get connected to a trained adviser who can explain cost-saving programs, from fuel assistance and discount utility rates to solar credits and no-cost energy assessments. Support is available to renters, homeowners, and landlords alike—regardless of building type.

The use of generative artificial intelligence has rapidly proliferated in daily life, from integration in search engines like Google to individuals seeking it out for mental health purposes. In this session, Digital Navigators will share information about how AI works, what chatbots are, how to use AI safely, and how to identify AI content. We will invite participants to discuss these topics along with interactive activities and reflections on how AI functions in our own lives. This class will be delivered by a DOORS program instructor. The Baker-Polito Administration announced that K-12 educators, child care workers and K-12 school staff will be eligible to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments starting March 11th. This group of workers will join the current eligible groups (including 65+ and individuals with 2+ certain medical conditions).

The Cambridge Preschool Program (CPP), also known as universal preschool, will provide free preschool to Cambridge 4-year-olds and some 3-year-olds beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. CPP will offer families a streamlined, single application process where they can apply to a variety of Cambridge-based preschool programs. Families can apply to CPP from December 1 – January 15.

The reports provide critical insights into the ongoing opioid crisis and the perspectives of individuals with lived and living experience regarding substance use programming in our community. The reports, which focus on opioid overdose data for the years 2022-2023 and the allocation of opioid settlement funds, are now available to the public.

Due to structural concerns at 221 Mount Auburn Street (Riverview Condominium Building), the City of Cambridge will close segments of Mount Auburn Street and Sparks Street starting Saturday, July 19. Multiple detours and traffic changes will be in place to maintain the closure, which may last through the end of 2025.

In anticipation of Valeria Luiselli's visit to Cambridge Public Library on September 24 (learn more here), we will gather to discuss Luiselli's new novel Beginning Middle End at this month's meeting. This month's book: Beginning Middle End by Valeria Luiselli Reading Interests: The group concentrates on fiction and narrative nonfiction. Some past selections include: An Oral History of Atlantis by Ed Park, The Lilac People by Milo Todd, and Searches by Vauhini Vara.
