Recycling Center

Before visiting the Recycling Center, check whether your item is accepted by using the Get Rid of It Right tool.

The Recycling Center is located at 147 Hampshire Street in the back right corner of the Public Works' yard. We are open: Tuesdays & Thursdays: 4:00pm - 7:30pm and Saturdays: 9:00am - 4:00pm. The yard is closed to the public at all other times.

The Center is open to Cambridge residents only and small businesses and non-profit organizations in Cambridge with 50 employees or fewer. Dozens of items are accepted for safe and efficient disposal, but businesses and nonprofits may only bring:

  • Single-stream recyclables (paper, cardboard, cans, and bottles)
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Plastic film (for special recycling)
  • Scrap metal

There is a book swap (limit of taking 10 per visit) and swap shelves for good-condition small household goods. See flyer for more information. Residents may also take packing peanuts, plastic bags, cords and 3-ring binders. No rummaging of other items.
