North Mass Ave Bike Lanes
Bike Lanes planned for Massachusetts Avenue from Beech Street to Route 16 (Alewife Brook Parkway)
As a Participatory Budgeting Item in 2015, Cambridge residents voted to create short-term immediate measures in the form of better roadway markings and signage for the safety of people bicycling along north Massachusetts Avenue. This project complements the City’s Vision Zero and Complete Streets Policies. The planned markings and signing vary with conditions along the Avenue, and include regular bike lanes, green markings at conflict points, shared lane markings, added signing, and short sections of separated bike lanes. As part of this project, the City will be installing designated bikes lanes on Massachusetts Avenue between Beech Street and Route 16. Parking changes will be limited to an area on the north side of the street near Linear Park.
*****Work to begin on Thursday, September 21, 2017*****
Preparation for the installation of bike safety improvements on Massachusetts Avenue from Beech Street to Alewife Brook Parkway will begin the evening of Thursday, September 21st. Expect temporary overnight parking restrictions along Mass Ave starting on September 21st and continuing intermittently through the following week. All temporary parking restrictions will be posted.
