From time to time the Community Development Department hires interns to assist with various planning projects and research tasks. Any internships for which we are currently accepting applications will be listed on this page, along with contact information and a link to a job description.

Electric and Low Carbon Vehicles Internship

The Electric and Low Carbon Vehicles Intern will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks related to the development of the City’s Electric Vehicle and other low carbon vehicle fuel strategies. Duties will focus on research and summation of best practices, keeping up with new technologies and fuel sources, and analysis of policy and program options for Cambridge. In addition, the candidate will provide basic administrative support for program development and other activities as needed in the division.

Glocal Challenge Internship

The Glocal Challenge is a contest-based program facilitated by EF Education First, the City of Cambridge, and the Cambridge Public Schools to help high school students learn critical 21st Century Skills, gain global competence and receive real-world experience in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math). Each year, we ask Cambridge Rindge and Latin School students to solve a challenge locally in Cambridge that has global implications.

Outreach, Engagement and Data Internship

This intern will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks with a focus on outreach and engagement of the community on issues of sustainable transportation, energy efficiency and climate change. This candidate will also complete a variety of tasks around data input and analysis in our Parking and Transportation Demand Management program and the City of Cambridge employee commute survey. In addition, the candidate will provide basic administrative support to these programs and other activities as needed in the division.

Net Zero Initiative Internship

The Net Zero Initiative Intern will assist staff with implementation of the Getting to Net Zero Action Plan by enabling energy efficiency and renewable energy in Cambridge buildings. Duties will focus on research of energy efficiency and renewable energy policies and programs related to the Net Zero Action Plan goals, collection and analysis of data, and communication of program activities and results.
