Team Energy Takes Cambridge by Storm!

This summer, 14 Cambridge youth worked for the City of Cambridge as part of the Cambridge Energy Alliance, reaching out to residents and showing them ways to save energy and travel sustainably. They talked to people on the street and at events, signed residents up for home energy assessments and informed them of our chance to win the Georgetown University Energy Prize. Throughout this, they also talked about ways to get around Cambridge sustainably and signed people up for Hubway, the City’s bike share program (a partnership with Boston, Brookline and Somerville). While the youth themselves were educating plenty of people, they were also learning quite a bit themselves. They went on college tours in Boston to Northeastern and Bunker Hill Community College, toured EF Education First, received extensive training by Yeloha (a solar sharing company) and Next Step Living, and got to experience working for the City first hand. It was a very productive summer!

Here Are a Few of the Amazing Feats They Accomplished:

  • Talked to over 1,000 people about ways they can save energy in their home and travel sustainably around the city
  • Signed 376 people up for home energy assessments
  • Dropped off over 9,000 pieces of literature at over 270 locations
  • Created 4 outreach campaigns focused on the Georgetown University Energy Prize and the Glocal Challenge, to be implemented in the fall at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. Through these campaigns, they created posters, articles for the newspaper and blurbs for the parent newsletter, organized a school-wide assembly, created social media posts, and applied for a Cambridge-wide Snapchat filter.
