Harvard Square at night

As part of its Customer Intercept Survey Program for Cambridge’s commercial districts, the Community Development Department (CDD) will begin surveying in Harvard Square starting on September 14, 2016. The purpose of the Commercial District Customer Intercept Survey is to provide the Economic Development Division with a better understanding of what Cambridge residents and Harvard Square customers want in their commercial district. Having specific information about the different types of consumers in each commercial district will enable us to better assist entrepreneurs to find locations where their businesses can succeed; help current businesses owners understand the local market, and help property owners recruit potential businesses to vacant storefronts. CDD has completed successful surveys in Fresh Pond-Alewife, Porter, Inman, Central and Kendall Squares, and the results have informed the planning process for those areas.

Harvard Square surveying days and times have been scheduled from September 14-26, 2016 at different locations and times throughout the square. Surveys may also be picked up, filled out, and submitted at: Cambridge Artist Cooperative (59A Church Street). On Friday, September 16, 2016 from 8:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. staff will be conducting surveys in front of the Brattle Theater (40 Brattle Theater) as a part of PARK(ing) Day, where you can enter to win passes to the Brattle Theater upon completing a survey. We encourage you to snag a surveyor or pick up a survey at one of the retailers and give us your input on Harvard Square!
