COA Senior Center

Cambridge Council on Aging

The Cambridge Council on Aging (COA) works to promote and support the health and independence of Cambridge adults age 60 and older. Through our two Senior Centers, located in Central Square and North Cambridge, we offer a variety of recreational classes, monthly support and discussion groups, special events and guest speakers, trips in and around New England, technology support, and other opportunities that help enhance the lives of older adults. We also offer Medicare consultations and provide referrals to local agencies to support the health, wellness, and safety of seniors.

We welcome seniors to spend time in our Senior Centers connecting with others, enjoying a meal, or engaging in a class or activity. Our staff are happy to assist seniors on a walk-in basis or by appointment.

Shoveling Resources for Older Adults

A person shovels the sidewalk after a storm

Snow Exemption Program: For eligible Cambridge homeowners who are 60 and older or who have a disability. City staff shovel the sidewalks of eligible homeowners after clearing public roadways, schools, and public building properties. City staff are not responsible for shoveling homeowners’ personal property, including walkways, entryways and front or back steps. To qualify, you must meet income eligibility requirements.

Student Shoveler Program: Cambridge teens are matched with Cambridge residents 60 and older to clear snow from their property. Homeowners are responsible for communicating with students directly. Pay is negotiated between the homeowner and student, and the homeowner pays the student directly. Interested teens can sign up through this form

Call the Council on Aging at 617-349-6220 during business hours to sign up for these programs. For snow updates and impacts, visit www.cambridgema.gov/Snow.
