The Hive at the Cambridge Public Library (449 Broadway) is resuming its in-person workshop offerings and expanding its hours of operation beginning April 4.

The Hive’s new hours of operation are:

Monday, 1 – 5 p.m.
Tuesday and Wednesday, 1 - 9 p.m.
Thursday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

About the Hive:
The Hive, a STEAM Makerspace located in the lower level of the Main Library, consists of a hands-on workshop stocked with digital and traditional fabrication tools, two multimedia recording studios for creating audio and video content, and an extended reality lab (XR lab) for experiencing and experimenting with virtual and augmented reality.

The Hive is the hub of the Cambridge STEAM Initiative, a joint venture between the City of Cambridge Department of Human Service Programs, the Cambridge Public School Department, and the Cambridge Public Library.  STEAM is an integrated approach to learning that uses any combination of STEAM areas of study - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math - as access points for inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. Using a racial justice lens to frame all of its efforts, the STEAM Initiative works to ensure that Cambridge residents who are most impacted by systemic inequities have access to high quality STEAM programming, resources, and skill-building opportunities.

Funding for STEAM at the Library has been generously provided by the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Foundation, Friends of the Cambridge Public Library, Cambridge Trust Company, the Eric and Jane Nord Family Fund, Google, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, the Massachusetts Library Association, Richard Miner and Corinne Nagy, and Verizon.
