Influenza viruses are constantly mutating, which is why we need a new flu shot every year. Researchers are working on developing universal flu vaccines, which target regions that are the same across all flu viruses. A universal flu vaccine would eliminate the need for a yearly flu shot and would also be readily available to help protect people during future influenza pandemics. In this talk, Dr. Lingwood will discuss his lab’s research on B cell antibody responses and influenza vaccine design.
Daniel Lingwood, PhD, is a core member of the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT, and Harvard and is an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School (HMS). He has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, received his doctorate from the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany, and was a post-doctoral fellow at the NIAID Vaccine Research Center in Bethesda, MD before becoming a professor at HMS. His lab studies B cell responses to HIV and influenza.
