Join Eleanor Catton—screenwriter and author of international bestseller The Luminaries—for a discussion of her new novel Birnam Wood, an electrifying eco-thriller grounded in a provocative and sly exploration of some of the most pressing issues of our times. Catton's award-winning debut novel, The Rehearsal was published in 2008, and has been adapted into a 2016 film of the same name. Her second novel, The Luminaries, won the 2013 Booker Prize, making Catton the youngest author ever to win the prize and only the second New Zealander. It was adapted into a television miniseries, with Catton as screenwriter. Catton will be in conversation with local author Nina MacLaughlin, the author of the lauded Wake Siren: Ovid Resung, a re-telling of Ovid's Metamorphoses told from the perspective of the female figures transformed. Her first book was the acclaimed memoir Hammer Head: The Making of a Carpenter (W.W. Norton). Formerly an editor at the Boston Phoenix, she worked for nine years as a carpenter, and is now a books columnist for the Boston Globe
