Regional Pathways
Regional pathways -- i.e., off-road separated paths that serve cyclists, walkers, joggers, skaters, etc. -- are important facilities in Cambridge and the greater Boston region. They connect municipalities, increase people's ability to travel further distances on foot or by bike, and allow easier access to more pleasant linear parks.
Well-planned and designed multi-use paths can provide good bicycle mobility and serve as a supplemental system to the street network. Paths can serve all types of cyclists. A separated path may provide a learning ground for those don’t yet feel comfortable riding on streets and can attract cyclists who prefer an aesthetic ride. Paths can also be good facilities for children.
Cambridge works with neighboring communities and state and regional agencies to enhance and connect the regional paths in our area.
