Have a general question about zoning in Cambridge? CDD’s Zoning and Development staff can help you understand how zoning works and where to find more information.

Here are some tips to start:

  • The City does not provide zoning letters or other written certification of the zoning status of a property. You can request copies of permits that have been issued for a site along with other public documents by Submitting a Public Records Request.
  • If you want to know more about the zoning for a site, start by finding what district(s) it is in using the online Zoning Maps.
  • If you have applied for a permit in Viewpoint and it is in the “Zoning Review” stage, you should contact the Inspectional Services Department with questions. Contact us at CDD if your permit is in “Community Development Department (Planning) Review.”
  • If you have a question about Board of Zoning Appeal (BZA) applications, contact the Inspectional Services Department. Contact us at CDD if your question is about Planning Board special permit applications.
