The City of Cambridge, in cooperation with Harvard University and the Harvard Square Business Association, has engaged in a public process to develop recommendations for the public open space in the center of Harvard Square: The T plaza, Forbes Plaza at Holyoke Center, and the broad sidewalk in front of the Coop and Bank of America.

Call for Harvard Square Kiosk Working Group Members

The City is seeking volunteers to serve on a new Harvard Square Kiosk Working Group. This working group is being created to advise the City Manager on the vision, programming, operations and governance of the Harvard Square kiosk and plaza. Letters of Interest are due by December 2, 2016. For more information and instructions for sending a letter of interest, please click on the link provided.

Comment Period Open on the DRAFT Request for Proposals Harvard Square Kiosk Consulting Services

The City is interested in issuing a Request for Proposals (RFPs) for hiring a consultant to assist the City to create a vision for the programming, operations and governance of the Harvard Square Kiosk.The City would like to provide an opportunity for community input on the scope for the RFP consulting services. Specifically, we are seeking public comment on the scope and evaluation criteria.

The comment period on the RFP will extend for three (3) weeks, and comments will inform any changes to the RFP before it is posted. The revised RFP will be posted for six (6) weeks to allow sufficient time to publicize the opportunity to potential respondents. The link to review the RFP scope is provided below. The Neighborhood and Long-term Planning, Public Facilities, Arts, and Celebration Committee will be conducting a public hearing on Thursday, June 23rd from 5:30 P. M. to 7:00 P. M. in the Sullivan Chamber, Cambridge City Hall to discuss the formation of a special working group that will be tasked with developing a framework for the continued stewardship, curatorship, and oversight of the Out of Town News Kiosk in Harvard Square. The next Harvard Square Placemaking Community Workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17th from 5:30 P. M. to 7:00 P. M. at the Smith Campus Center, 2nd Floor, 1344 Massachusetts Avenue. The entrance is located next to Cambridge Trust (to the left of the main entrance). A sign will be on the door indicating the location. Details to follow. Follow-up Public Workshop

Join us for an evening of continued discussion on the ideas for the public space in the heart of Harvard Square including the Plazas at the T, Harvard's Forbes Plaza at Holyoke Center, and in front of the Coop. The session will kick off with a look at the public open space interventions to date, followed by further discussion of the four categories of actions in and around the plazas.
