The City of Cambridge, in cooperation with Harvard University and the Harvard Square Business Association, is engaging in a public process to develop recommendations for the public open space in the center of Harvard Square: The T plaza, Forbes Plaza at Holyoke Center, and the broad sidewalk in front of the Coop and Bank of America.

The was a public workshop held on September 17, 2013. You can review the presentation from that meeting below:

Please review the Harvard Square Vision Plan report released in May 2014.

This Fall there will be an evening of Discussion & Ideas and Steps for Actions about the center of Harvard Square – The Plazas at The T, Holyoke, The Coop.

The workshop will include a presentation by the Project for Public Spaces:

  • Examples of successful public spaces 
  • How to create a great place 
  • Placemaking principles and the Power of Ten

Project for Public Spaces Place Performance Evaluation:

  • Interactive Group Participation 
  • Requires Imagination and Intuition 
  • Divide into small groups to discuss issues and present recommendations

Workshop Results:

  • Develop recommendations for activities that could occur on the sites 
  • Next steps in the process
