Tech Rescue Training at Quincy Shipyard
10/14/2025 • 1 month ago
On Wednesday, October 8th, Firefighter Tech Rescue teams conducted a hands-on drill on the retired United States Navy heavy cruiser, USS Salem in the Quincy shipyard.
Approximately 40 UASI (Urban Area Security Initiative) members participated.
Firefighters from Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea, Quincy, and Somerville, as well as Brockton attended the drill. The weather was rainy in the morning so the drill was concentrated in the lower decks for confined space training. In the afternoon, the weather broke and cleared up enough to run a friendly contest on the bow, with a live review of rope rescue, hi-angle, & rappelling skills.
Everyone was a winner that day!
As we know, all these technical rescue skills are transferable to actual rescue situations in our complicated urban environments.
This exercise was another example of our Metro Area Firefighters working together as one to keep our cities safe.
