The following are pictures and info on various specialty and spare apparatus within the Department.

Air Supply 1
The new Cambridge Fire "Air Supply/Incident Support Unit" is mounted on a Ford F550, 4-wheel drive chassis (the former tech rescue trailer prime mover). The unit carries 50 spare air cylinders & a cascade system with the capability to refill approx 50 additional cylinders. This apparatus also carries a portable generator, portable scene lights, portable light towers, a portable canopy, several fire extinguishers of various classes, a thawing device, ice melt, hot weather & cold weather rehab supplies (ice packs, wipes, gloves, etc.), & much more.
Thank you to our Fire Apparatus Fleet Mechanics & Tech Services for professionally fitting out this multi-purpose air supply/support unit.
Air Supply 1 was placed in service on March 17, 2026.

Dive 1
Dive 1 is a Ford F450/Road Rescue, four wheel drive & replaces an older Dive Rescue apparatus.It will be utilized to support the CFD firefighter divers in underwater search & rescue operations. Thank you to the members of Rescue 1 & Engine 1, Tech Services, & the Fleet Mechanics for their work to outfit the new truck!

Rescue 2 - USAR Truck
This USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) truck built by Marion on a Freightliner chassis, is fully equipped for response to major incidents in Cambridge as well as in the Metro area. Rescue 2 will be cross-staffed by the members of Rescue 1 & members of the Tech Rescue squads & companies (Engine 1, Ladder 1, Squads 2, 3, an 4), responding by special call as needed.
The new Rescue 2 was placed in service on July 11, 2025.

HazMat 1
HazMat 1 is an Electric Vehicle (EV), built by
Rosenbauer Group on a 2023 International chassis. The apparatus includes a command post with electronic research library and is fully equipped to support our Cambridge Fire Hazardous Materials Task Force at hazardous materials incidents in the city as well as in our mutual aid communities as needed.
Equipment carried includes sampling meters & kits to test gaseous, liquid, &
solid products; radiation meters; personal protective equipment (entry suits, self-contained breathing apparatus, boots, gloves); containment equipment (booms, absorbent materials, drums, patches, plugs, & diking materials); hand tools (non-sparking wrenches, mallets, shovels, brooms, brushes); decontamination equipment; and much, much more. The truck also includes a roof-mounted light tower for use during night or low-visibility operations.
This apparatus is believed to be the first Electric Powered Fire Apparatus in service in New England!

Spare Ladder 5 - (fomer Ladder 4)
2002 Pierce "Dash 2000" 105 foot heavy duty rear-mount aerial ladder (former Ladder 4). This truck, designated as a spare, was totally rebuilt at the Pierce manufacturing facility in 2021. Note the truck changeable number inserts, e.g. Ladder 3 in this photo.
