Yearly Carbon Monoxide Incidents!

 

In the calendar year 2025, Cambridge fire companies responded to 372 Carbon Monoxide alarm activations. Of these, 94 proved to be actual CO contamination in the building due to defective heating systems, improperly vented stoves & cooking systems, vehicles left running inside, power tools operating inside a building, etc.
Carbon monoxide cannot be detected by human senses. It is poisonous & potentially deadly. Ensure that your CO & smoke detectors are working!

 

If your detector goes into alarm, don't hesitate. Call 911 right away from a safe area or from outside the building. Emergency Communications staff will immediately dispatch a fire company to investigate and test the air. If there is CO contamination in the building, firefighters will initiate an action plan to determine the cause and make the area safe.
