Firehouse Magazine Station Design Awards - 2025

Our Fire Station 10 on Hovey Avenue has been recognized as Notable in the Firehouse Magazine Station Design Awards for 2025.

This temporary station, which houses Engine 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, and Dive 1, was assembled on site and has been in service since January of 2024. This house, located on Hovey Avenue, has allowed for maintenance of quick response times to the densely populated, urban response area, as well as mitigating noise to the surrounding areas. The Station 10 design ensures functionality as a busy fire house and instant recognition as a firehouse from the Cambridge Street area.

The concept, design, site work, and assembly was a team effort from members of several public and private agencies.

The station includes four apparatus stalls attached to a separate living space. The living space includes a kitchen, common areas, gender-neutral bathrooms and showers, individual bunkrooms, a fitness center, and a fire sprinkler system.

The apparatus area includes LED lighting, a wash station, and an exhaust system to remove diesel exhaust to the exterior. The living area is separated from the apparatus area "hot zone" to prevent any contaminants from entering the living quarters.

In addition to training, maintenance, and other routine activities, during calendar year 2025, the Hovey Avenue companies made nearly 7000 emergency responses from this fire house.

The building will be in service until reconstruction of Headquarters at 491 Broadway is completed. Temporary Station 10 is built so that it can be repurposed once fire companies move back to their permanent quarters.

In addition to Cambridge Fire Station 10, in Massachusetts, Greenfield Headquarters, Northbridge Headquarters, and Revere Station 2 at Point of Pines received Firehouse Magazine Station Design Awards for 2025.
