New Air Supply 1 placed in service

3/19/2026

The new Cambridge Fire "Air Supply/Incident Support Unit" was placed in service on March 17, 2026. This unit is mounted on a Ford F550, 4-wheel drive chassis (the repurposed tech rescue trailer prime mover).

The unit carries 50 spare air cylinders and a cascade system with the capability to refill approximately 50 additional cylinders to supply our SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus) units which are used for firefighting, hazmat, and other emergency operations.

Designed with a multi-task capability, this apparatus also carries a portable generator, portable scene lights, portable light towers, a portable shellter canopy, several fire extinguishers of various classes, a thawing device, ice melt, hot weather & cold weather rehab supplies (ice packs, wipes, gloves, etc.), and much, much more.

Air Supply 1 will be temporarily stationed at the East Cambridge Fire House. It will be stationed at Fire Headquarters once reconstruction is completed.

Thank you to our Fire Apparatus Fleet Mechanics and Tech Services for professionally fitting out this multi-purpose air supply/support unit.
