Fire was quickly contained and extinguished by responding fire companies

On Sunday, October 8th, a working fire was ordered, Box 45-345, for the fire in the unhoused encampment under and in the vicinity of the BU Bridge. Arriving with heavy fire & smoke showing & compromised propane tanks, companies made a rapid search for occupants & ensured that all were safe. All Firefighters were then evacuated from the area while 2 ladder pipes, 3 - 2 1/2" hand lines, & Marine 1's bow monitor were operated to contain & extinguish the fire.

 

Ten occupants were evaluated and left in care of American Red Cross of Massachusetts.

 

Engines, 2, 1, 6, & 5; Ladders 3, 1, & 2 (with Marine Unit 1); Squads 2, 3, & 4; Rescue 1, & Boston Fire Department Engine 41 & Ladder 14, with command & support units operated at the fire.

 

Thank you to Somerville Engine 1, Brookline Ladder 2, & Belmont Rescue 1 for covering & responding to other, unrelated incidents during the fire.

 

Teamwork: Thank you to all the agencies who assisted at the fire, including Cambridge Police, Massachusetts State Police, & Pro EMS, MA DCR, as well as the staff of Cambridge Emergency Communications who handled the fire communications as well as numerous other simultaneous incidents in progress in the city.

 

Group 1 was on duty.
