Director's Update, September 21, 2025

Dear Patrons,

In two weeks, on Tuesday, September 30, we will welcome Elaine Castillo, author of How to Read Now and America Is Not the Heart, to celebrate the release of her newest novel, Moderation. Moderation follows Girlie Delmundo, a social media content moderator falling in love with her boss while her career veers into an increasingly virtual realm, raising pertinent questions about the future of love. Register here.

On Thursday, September 25, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m., join members of the Legal Services Center of Harvard Law School for a brief presentation outlining the importance of Health Care Proxies followed by the opportunity to complete and execute your own. Registration is requested but not required.

On Saturday, September 26,11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., shop for free with The Spot at the Central Square Branch Library. Gear up with fall and winter clothes, accessories, supplies, and more -- all for free! First come, first serve.

Aging with Mindfulness (Virtual)

This program, led by Zeenat Potia, will introduce and utilize mindfulness techniques to help us examine and regulate everyday life changes with a focus on aging. Participants will learn and benefit from the development of a mindfulness practice to enable responding to getting older in a calm, clear and thoughtful manner. Registration is required. Wellness for Older Adults: Let Your Yoga Dance (Virtual)

A fun, dynamic, and ultimately blissful classWe'll work our way through the seven energy centers (chakras) with Let Your Yoga Dance. You will leave with a good workout and a peaceful happy mind/body/spirit. Good for everybody! Registration for each session is required. This is a virtual event. Meditation Mondays (Central Square)

Start your week off right with some meditation at the Central Square Library. Led by the Library Social Worker, Brett Dixon, we combine gentle breathwork, visualization practice and mindful meditation, for a relaxing and recharging experience.

Chess Hour (Boudreau)

Come join us at the Boudreau branch for a chess challenge. Players of all skill levels and all ages are welcome to participate. Chess sets will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. This is not an instructional class, but rather a gathering for individuals who want to play and test their skills against other members of the community. There's no need to register in advance - simply drop by and challenge yourself to improve your mastery of this classic game! New to Medicare is a workshop presented by a Minuteman Senior Services state-certified Medicare benefits counselor. This program is aimed at people who are turning 65 or leaving an employer group health plan due to retirement. Harvard Book Store and the Cambridge Public Library welcome Dr. Stephen Greenblatt—Cogan University Professor of the Humanities at Harvard University, general editor of The Norton Anthology of English Literature, and the author of fourteen books including The Swerve, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award—for a discussion of his new book Dark Renaissance: The Dangerous Times and Fatal Genius of Shakespeare's Greatest Rival. He will be joined in conversation by Neel Mukherjee—author of four novels, including The Lives of Others, which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Registration is required.

Expressive Art for Older Adults: Beading Workshop (Central)

Help us kick off the new school year with CYAS- Cambridge Young Authors' Squad. Young people ages 10 to 14 who love to write are welcome to share their ideas and writing.
