Neighborhood Walk-Through program

Did you know that every fire company in the city completes a "Neighborhood Walk-Through" every day?
Companies remain in service via radio while the firefighters walk through a neighborhood in their response area. This is a great opportunity to interact with those who live & work in our city. It also enhances the knowledge of buildings, construction, geography, & access in the district. It is also an excellent opportunity to  review fire tactics & strategy.
On Sundays, the "walk-through" is completed in an MBTA rapid transit station.

The walk-through is horizontal as well as vertical, meaning that firefighters not only walk the area at ground level, they also climb up and down stairs and to the roof as part of the walk-through.

Photos show Engine Company No. 5 (group 1 on duty) from Inman Square completing a Thursday morning "walk- through" in the Newtowne Court area.

In this particular walk-through, the members of Engine 5 had the opportunity to complete the walk alongside our public safety partners, Cambridge Police Bike Officers.

Nice work by all to keep the people of our city safe!
