Cambridge Police Recognize October as both Domestic Violence and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This year, Purple Thursday will be held on Thursday, October 16^th. On this date non-uniformed officers and professional staff members at CPD will be encouraged to wear purple clothing to honor victims and support survivors of domestic violence. All members of the public are also encouraged to also participate in this simple, yet meaningful way to raise awareness about domestic violence. Photos can be shared on social media using the hashtag #PurpleThursday.

Aside from these events, Cambridge Public Safety is once again observing Domestic Violence Month by displaying purple in a variety of ways. Purple ribbon pins have been made available for officers and staff to wear throughout the month. Furthermore, a purple ribbon flag is displayed on the Robert W. Healy Public Safety building, while the lights on the outside of the building are purple throughout the month of October. There will also be a donation box from Transition House in the lobby to collect supplies for survivors of domestic violence.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Cambridge Police Charity Patch Series has unveiled their newly redesigned Pink Patch in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For several years now Cambridge has been an active participant in the Pink Patch Project and its local affiliate, the Massachusetts Pink Patch Project. These initiatives seek to bring public safety professionals and supporters together to raise funds and awareness for those battling breast cancer. A limited quantity of the CPD Pink Patch will be sold online at cppoa1969.square.site for $12. Proceeds from the sale of these items will be donated to charities that support breast cancer research and treatment.

The CPD’s participation in the Pink Patch Project is made possible by the volunteer efforts of several CPD officers and financial contributions from the Cambridge Police Patrol Officer’s Association.
