On Saturday, January 31st a team of off-duty CPD officers partnered with the Cambridge Program for Individuals with Special Needs to support the Cambridge Warriors Special Olympics Basketball Team. Members of the Warriors faced off in a friendly scrimmage against a team comprised of CPD officers representing several units in the departments.
The game was well attended with officers, community leaders, fans, and the Harvard University Police Department’s Community Engagement Dog, Sasha. Ultimately, the Warriors came out ahead by a score of 52 – 43.
The Warriors, who hold an impressive 84-0 record in their division, are headed to the national Special Olympics Games in Minnesota this June where they will represent Massachusetts. Proceeds from the sale of tickets and merchandise during the game will go toward the team’s travel expenses for this trip.
