Somerville Resident Arrested on Gun Charges in North Cambridge

Cambridge Police have charged Kyle Evans, 39, of Somerville with multiple offenses related to the unlawful possession of a firearm, illegal narcotics, and the physical assault of a police officer.

On the morning of Monday, May 11th shortly after 8am, patrol officers assigned to North Cambridge recognized Evans in the vicinity of Rindge Ave and Alewife Brook Parkway. Evans was known to the officers, and they were aware that he had several active warrants for his arrest from courts in Boston and Rhode Island. When approached, Evans allegedly attempted to flee from officers and as they caught up to him a struggle ensued. Evans violently resisted officer efforts to place him under arrest which included kicking officers and thrashing in an effort to break free. At one point during the struggle a loaded magazine of ammunition allegedly fell from his person. With the assistance of a good samaritan and back-up officers, Evans was soon placed into custody. A search incident to arrest uncovered a loaded .45 caliber handgun, a brown substance suspected to be heroin / fentanyl, and two fraudulent identification cards from other states. Evans does not have a license to carry a firearm.

Evans has been arraigned in Cambridge District Court on multiple charges including:

  • Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Assault & Battery on a Police Officer
  • Possession of a Class A Substance (Heroin / Fentanyl)
  • Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition.
  • Resist Arrest
  • Warrants

Prosecution of this case will be managed by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
