CAMBRIDGE, MA – A suspect wanted in connection with a January double stabbing on White Street in Cambridge has been taken into custody.

Joshua Barreau, 23, of Lowell, was arrested in Boston after Cambridge Police detectives identified him as a suspect. Barreau is charged in Cambridge District Court with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

On January 04, 2024, at approximately 7:35 p.m., Cambridge Police responded to The Halal Guys restaurant located at 15 White Street after two individuals were stabbed outside of the restaurant.  After the incident, the unknown suspect fled into the MBTA Porter Square train station, where he discarded a knife, prior to officers arriving. Detectives arrived on scene and began the follow-up investigation. A person of interest was captured on video by nearby surveillance cameras. The images were released to the public and neighboring police departments. Detectives were able to generate a lead from the public that led to the identification of the suspect. After pursuing an arrest warrant, Boston Police located Barreau and took him into custody.
