A Cambridge bank employee reported today that a customer of the bank was the victim of a scam. The customer stated that she received a letter in the mail along with a check for her to deposit. She deposited the check and then got a bank check from her account and sent it to the person who sent her the original check. It was subsequently discovered that this check was fraudulent.

Cambridge Police responded to a restaurant on Massachusetts Avenue for the report of a shoplifting in progress. Upon further investigation, it was ascertained that a man had taken a packaged food item and proceeded to open and eat it and refused to pay for it. While investigating what had happened, the offender continued to spew obscenities and refused to give officers his information. The Boston resident was then summonsed for Shoplifting By Asportation and Disorderly Conduct.

James Fidler, 46, 52 Fair Street, Newburyport, was placed under arrest for Operating Under The Influence Of Alcohol, Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, and Failing To Stop for a Red Light. Officers observed the defendant going through a red light without any attempt to stop. After pulling Fidler over, officers noticed that his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, he was unsteady on his feet, and a strong odor of alcoholic beverage was coming from his breath. After further speaking with Fidler, he admitted to drinking several alcoholic beverages prior to driving.
