WESTERN AVE
Cambridge Police arrested Robert Hughes, 36, 8 Union Street in Salem, for OUI Liquor, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Electronic Message. Cambridge Police were called to Western Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers could see in plain sight an alcoholic beverage next to the vehicle Hughes was seen exiting according to witnesses. Officers observed Hughes’ glossy eyes and could smell alcohol emanating from Hughes. He admitted to officers on scene that he had one beer prior to the crash. Hughes also informed officers that he was attempting to put directions into his GPS in the moments leading up to him striking two legally parked vehicles. Prior to the crash, Hughes stated he was driving what he estimated to be 30-35 MPH. Hughes also showed multiple signs of impairment during field sobriety tests. It should be noted, witnesses informed officers no other individuals exited the vehicle Hughes was driving after the crash occurred. At the station, Hughes declined to take a breathalyzer test.

Cambridge Police arrested Samantha Sweikata, 25, 26 Kingston Street in Reading, for OUI Liquor. Cambridge Police were called to Columbia Street for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, police spoke to a named witness who witnessed Sweikata driving into a parked car on Columbia Street. The witness stated that after the crash, Sweikata attempted to leave the scene. Sweikata admitted to driving and crashing the vehicle. Officers noticed a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Sweikata’s breath. She also had glassy eyes. Sweikata admitted to drinking prior to driving. It should be noted that there were no other people in the vehicle. As officers approached the vehicle, the sound of an engine revving could be heard. Sweikata showed multiple signs of impairment during field sobriety tests.

Cambridge Police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Massachusetts Ave and Prospect St. As a result of the stop, an operator out of Revere was found to be operating a motor vehicle on a public way with a suspended license. Further, the driver had attached plates to a Lexus that were registered to a Hyundai. They were also operating an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle on a public way. An application for a complaint will be sought in Cambridge District Court for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, Attaching Plates, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle.

Cambridge Police arrested Jessica Boutin, 40, 572 Great Elm Way in Acton, on OUI - Liquor and a Marked Lanes Violation. Police responded to a reported two car motor vehicle crash in front of 928 Massachusett Ave and in trying to ascertain the circumstances of the crash, it became readily apparent the Boutin was impaired. Boutin made statements to an officer that she was coming from a bar. Her account of the events were completed inconsistent with the other involved persons and the visible damage. She had glassy eyes, an odor of an alcoholic beverage on her person, and appeared to be unsteady on her feet. Boutin submitted to Standard Field Sobriety Testing on-scene, which indicated impairment and was subsequently placed under arrest for the above referenced charges.

Cambridge Police issued a summons to a resident of Chelsea for an unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and improper operation of a motor vehicle. Officers observed the Chelsea man drive his vehicle the wrong way up Pleasant Street and turn right onto Massachusetts Avenue. Officers conducted a stop on his vehicle and the operator stated that he did not possess a driver's license and has lived in Chelsea for three months. He was issued a citation and his vehicle was towed from the scene.
