The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) creates and coordinates services that enhance the quality of life for Cambridge residents. Driven by the needs of residents, the department’s extensive services and programs touch almost every sector in the city: from newborns to older adults, from school-aged children to homeless families, from non-profit organizations to local employers.
The service components of the department encompasses childcare and family support services; preschool programs; Out-of-School Time (OST) programs for elementary school children, middle schoolers, and teens; adult education; the Council on Aging; recreation programs and facilities; workforce development and employment programs; heating assistance; and the Cambridge Summer Food Program. In addition to being a major provider of programs and services, DHSP is also a significant partner and funder of community agencies.
DHSP focuses on equitably serving Cambridge’s diverse community and increasing access to programs and services, particularly for low-income individuals and families and residents from historically marginalized communities.
