Man Arrested Following Fatal Stabbing in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow have confirmed that Victor Rivas, 51, of South Boston has been arrested and charged with assault and battery, dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury following a fatal stabbing that occurred last night inside of a residential building on Norfolk Street in Cambridge.

At approximately 7:52 p.m., Cambridge Emergency Communications dispatched Cambridge Police (CPD), Fire and EMS units to a Norfolk St. apartment complex for a 9-1-1 call reporting a person had been stabbed. On arrival, responders located one victim with serious injuries who was subsequently transported by Fire and EMS to a local hospital, where they later died. CPD and MIT Police Department Officers located Rivas nearby and placed him under arrest. The preliminary investigation suggests that there was an altercation inside the apartment between the defendant and the male victim, who are believed to be known to each other. Both parties sustained injuries during the altercation.

Rivas is scheduled to be arraigned Friday, January 9, 2026, in Cambridge District Court.

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by CPD Detectives, along with the Massachusetts State Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. Preliminary investigation suggests this was an isolated incident and there is no broader danger to public safety.  The prosecutor assigned to this case is Nicole Allain and Jacob McCrindle.
