After months of reported increases in overall crime when compared to the previous year, an analysis of the serious
crime statistics for the first two months of 2024 finally points to a slight decrease of 6% in the Part One index total for
Cambridge when compared with the first two months of 2023. Through February 26 of 2024, there were 386 serious
crimes reported in the City. For the same time period in 2023, the combined total for Murder, Rape, Robbery,
Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Larceny & Auto theft was 411 incidents. Despite the decrease when compared to last
year, a 6% rise in the crime index has still been registered when measured against the five-year average.
