Text a message to 911

Cambridge Police

All Massachusetts 911 call centers, including Cambridge Emergency Communications, have ability to receive a text message through the 911 system. Text to 911 allows those in need of emergency services to use their cellular device to contact 911 when they are unable to place a voice call. To contact emergency services by text message, simply enter 911 in the “To” field of your mobile device and then type your message into the message field.

The Emergency Communications Center (ECC) is now receiving all 911 calls made from within the City from cell phones as long as your phone carrier identifies your location as within the City of Cambridge boundary. This allows for the caller to reach the Cambridge Emergency Communications’ 911 Call-Takers directly, bypassing the usual State Police transfer.

When you dial 911 from any land line phone in Cambridge, your call should be routed directly to the Cambridge Emergency Communications Center, located at the Police Department. Our Dispatchers can then dispatch the proper Police, Fire, or Medical Response.
