History of Division 2

Fire Suppression Division 2 was established on 12 June 1956 and originally ran out of Fire Headquarters at 491 Broadway. Division 2 encompasses the northern and western areas of the city. Administratively Engines 1, 4, 8, and 9; Trucks 1 and 4; and Rescues 1 and 2 are under jurisdiction of Division Chief 2.

In 1988, the Division 2 Deputy Fire Chief's quarters was relocated to the Taylor Square fire house.

On September 11, 2019, Division 2 (along with Engine 8 and Ladder 4) moved into a temporary fire house at 144 Smith Place. The division ran out of this temporary fire house while major upgrades are completed to the quarters at 113 Garden Street.

Effective December 1, 2020, the Taylor Square companies including Division 2 moved back into their fire house in Taylor Square, following extensive building upgrades. Energy saving upgrades include a geothermal HVAC system, LED lighting, new roof, solar panels, new windows, & more. The building was deep cleaned and painted and the kitchen was refurbished. Lightning protection was installed as well as an emergency generator.
