Commission for Persons with Disabilities
The Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities works to reduce and eliminate the barriers that people with disabilities experience in our community.
CCPD staff answers questions, provides information & referrals, and gives technical assistance to individuals and families, public agencies, and private organizations. We promote equal opportunity and strive to eliminate discrimination against individuals with all types of disabilities. The Commission runs the City's temporary disability parking permit program, co-administers the Cambridge taxi discount program, publishes a newsletter (check out the current issue!), provides disability awareness training to City departments and private entities, and runs Disability Reframed: A Community Film Series with the City of Boston Mayor's Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
CCPD also offers an exemption from the City's 6:00 p.m. regulation for placing trash and recycling on the curb for households where all the residents over age twelve have disabilities that prevent them from placing trash barrels and recycling bins at the curbside. This exemption allows for the trash and recycling bins to be placed at the curbside by someone else before 6:00 p.m. on the day before regular curbside collection.
Closed captioning is provided for City Council and Committee meetings. To turn closed captioning on or off:

Public comment for City Council meetings can be provided remotely through Zoom or in person. You need to sign up in order to provide public comment. At this time, closed captioning is not provided in the Zoom video; it is only available on the meeting’s live video feed.
