On November 19, 2025 The Kennek Foundation, in partnership with The Stone Family Charitable Foundation, gifted 50 Trouble the Dog stuffed animals to be split between the Cambridge Police and Cambridge Fire Departments. These toys will be available for first responders to distribute in the field when they encounter children that have experienced traumatic events.
The donation was organized by Sheila Duncan, Founder of The Kennek Foundation, who personally delivered the toys to the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Building. Sheila was met by Police Commissioner Christine Elow, Acting Fire Chief Thomas Cahill, Emergency Communications Director Christina Giacobbe, and responders from Cambridge’s public safety agencies. Commissioner Elow and Chief Cahill both expressed gratitude to The Stone Family Charitable Foundation and The Kennek Foundation for their generosity, noting the potential impact these toys could have on a child in our community during a trying time.
Trouble is an ultra-soft keepsake toy that is 100% made in the United States. The toy is specifically designed to comfort children experiencing "trouble" in their lives -- big or small. Trouble has been applauded by local and national media outlets for its mission of helping children during difficult situations.
The Kennek Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, is dedicated to bringing hope, resilience, and inspiration into the lives of those most vulnerable going through tough times. Sheila Duncan, Kennek’s Founder, noted that the gift to Cambridge was made possible due to a generous donation from Jim Stone and The Stone Family Charitable Foundation. The Kennek Foundation has made donations of Trouble dogs to more than 80 organizations across the country, including many public safety agencies, hospitals, and social service providers.
