This golf season, Fresh Pond Golf Course was proud to host more than 54,053 rounds of golf! Whether you are a season pass holder or visited the course for the first time this year, thank you for tee-ing off with us, and we hope to see you again in 2026!
As we reflect on the past year, we are sharing highlights from Fresh Pond Golf Course’s community engagement programs for youth and military veterans.
Junior Golf Program at Fresh Pond Golf Course
This summer, more than 40 Cambridge youth participated in the Junior Golf Program at Fresh Pond Golf Course. The program, offered each year by Cambridge Recreation, is open to Cambridge residents between 7 – 16 years old.
The program runs on Tuesday mornings in July and August. Each session consists of an hour of golf practice with instruction and two hours on the golf course with supervision.
This year’s program was made possible with support from staff at the Russell Youth and Community Center.
PGA Jr. League
In the spring, Fresh Pond Golf Course ran a PGA Jr. League, a program run through the PGA of America. This is an unbelievable program that teaches young people how to play golf through a team format. While learning the game, participants also develop sportsmanship and team building skills. Above all else, they have fun!
Fresh Pond Golf Course hosted two “13 Under” teams and one “17 Under” team, totaling 44 junior golf players! Practices were held on Tuesday evenings and matches were played on Saturday afternoons. Through the league, the kids had the opportunity to play at several amazing local courses and grow their golfing network. Special thanks to our colleagues Jim Chojnowski, PGA, and Tom Cusick for bringing their expertise and dedication to support the PGA Jr. League.
Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS) Golf Team
The 2025 CRLS high school Golf team, which calls Fresh Pond their home course, completed another successful season that saw growth from many players. This season also reflected growing interest in the golf team, with new participants bringing the total number of players up to 50 across Varsity, JV, and Developmental teams.
Thanks to increased access to Fresh Pond Golf Course, the high schoolers were able to play daily. CRLS Coaches Mahoney and Trainor worked with players to improve their skills, technique, and knowledge of golf etiquette.
The CRLS team competed at a higher level in 2025, with more players winning individual matches, and checking in with close matches against rival teams in Watertown and Bedford (plus a victory over Somerville!).
PGA Hope Cambridge
In 2025, Fresh Pond Golf Course completed our second season of PGA HOPE Cambridge. PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America.
PGA HOPE introduces golf to veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The free program serves veterans across New England with an emphasis on helping those with physical and emotional disabilities who would most benefit from the initiative. The program at Fresh Pond Golf Course allowed for 10 veterans to get off a long New England waitlist to participate in this lifesaving program.
The program met for six weeks, covering golf techniques including the golf swing, short game, and putting. Participants also learned about course management and golf etiquette. During the final week of the program, participants played a scramble using the skills they acquired during the program and celebrated with a meal at VFW 8818 across the street.
