For Providers

The City of Cambridge, CEOC, the Cambridge Community Foundation, and more than 30 community-based organizations have launched a major, coordinated response to federal policy changes under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that have introduced new SNAP and MassHealth eligibility requirements. Our unified strategy helps Cambridge residents stay informed, confirm their eligibility, navigate SNAP and MassHealth systems, keep the benefits for which they are still eligible, and access additional resources.

Providers Can Connect with CEOC to:

  • Learn more about this coalition
  • Schedule a training for your staff
  • Host an outreach event
  • Refer a community member for assistance

Overview of Federal Impacts

SNAP

  • New work and immigration requirements are making it more difficult to receive and maintain SNAP benefits.
  • Many residents still qualify for SNAP benefits, but have lost them due to procedural errors like incomplete documents or a missed appointment.
  • It can be difficult to get in touch with the state's Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) to confirm eligibility or ask questions. An estimated 77% of calls to DTA are disconnected before a caseworker is free to answer.

SNAP enrollment among Cambridge households has dropped approximately 15% since July 2025.

MassHealth

  • Beginning in October 2026, changes to immigrant eligibility will go into effect for MassHealth recipients.
  • In January 2027, people between the ages of 19-64 may need to work, attend school, or volunteer to qualify for MassHealth.
  • MassHealth recipients may also need to renew their health insurance every 6 months.
Statewide projections show 141,000 to 203,000 members could lose coverage, including roughly 2,400 Cambridge residents.

We are coming together to support Cambridge residents impacted by these changes. More information is available at www.cambridgema.gov/SNAPMassHealth.
